The Grambling State University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field team turned in several highlighted performances during Saturday’s Jim Mize Invitational at the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex at Louisiana Tech.
On the women’s side in field events, Dior Nicholson placed second in the discus and third in the shot put, while Sascha Greene was third in the high jump. On the track, Sharon Labich won the 1,500m and placed second in the 3,000m, while Mercy Kwambai took third in the 3,000m Dayna Sterling placed second in the 400m hurdles and Kyla Blockett finished second in the 200m. In the addition, the 4×100 relay team of Rayna Whyte, Blockett, Ivory Davis and Sterling claimed second.
On the men’s side in the field events, Terrence Bell Jr. finished third in the discus and shot put. On the track, Kimani Gardner and Burnell Williams were second in the 100m and 200m, respectively. In the 3,000m, Mathias Cheboi finished third
WOMEN’S NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
– Dior Nicholson finished second in the discus, with a toss of 36.12m, while teammate Krishiria Freeman placed fourth at 26.30m
– Nicholson continued her strong performances in field events, taking third in the shot put, with a toss of 12.18m, while Freeman placed fourth at 11.94m
– Sascha Greene finished third in the high jump, with a leap of 1.35m
– In the 4x100m, the team of Rayna Whyte, Kyla Blockett, Ivory Davis and Danya Sterling claimed second, with a time of 48.22
– Sharon Labich captured the 1,500m, with a time of 5:05.34, while Mercy Kwambai placed third in 5:10.87. Also, Lillian Thuo (5:31.32) claimed sixth and Ce’Arion Turner (6:10.35) took eighth
– In the 400m hurdles, Sterling turned in a second-place finish and just missed first, with a time of 1:06.13
– Blockett just missed the top spot in the 200m, finishing second in 25.76, while Davis placed fourth in 25.82
– In the 3,000m, Labich and Kwambai placed second and third, with times of 10:52.25 and 11:20.11. Teammates Mildred Jebet and Deborah Kiplagat were fifth and sixth in times of 12:07.46 and 12:19.78
MEN’S NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
– In the discus, Terrence Bell Jr. placed third, with a toss of 35.41m
– Bell finished third in the shot put, with a toss of 12.08m
– In the 1,500m, Mathias Cheboi and Aryamanua Rogers placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 4:15.53 and 4:23.87
– Anthony Davis finished fifth in the 110m hurdles, with a time of 15.83, while teammate Albert Cain was sixth in 16.46
– Kimani Gardner just missed the top spot in the 100m, finishing second, with a time of 11.09
– In the 800m, Miciah Myles placed sixth (2:02.06) and Devin Malone claimed eighth (2:10.92)
– Davis finished fourth in the 400m hurdles, racking up a time of 58.83, while Dante Montaque and Cain placed sixth and seventh in times of 59.96 and 1:01.05
– Burnell Williams claimed the second spot in the 200m, turning in a time of 22.10
– In the 3,000m, Cheboi placed third, with a time of 9:15.92 and Rogers finished sixth in 9:47.22

Grambling State returns to the track on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively as both teams travel to participate in the Texas Relays and PVAMU Relays.
